Because of the growth and potential of the Lake Oconee Area, the respective leaders of the Chambers of Commerce of Greene, Morgan and Putnam Counties; Convention and Visitors Bureau of Madison; the Better Hometown cities of Greensboro and Eatonton and the Main Street City of Madison have formed a cooperative marketing alliance called "Georgia's Lake Country." On August 5, 1999, the respective directors and managers of this alliance met to form an executive committee in order to market the Lake Oconee area together. This alliance is much more than a group of communities banded together; this is a full community with award-winning golf course communities, expansive lakes and exquisite landscapes.
Lake Oconee was formed by Georgia Power in 1979. The lake features 374 miles of shoreline. Lake Sinclair was created in 1953. With approximately 417 miles of scenic shoreline, winding coves and inlets as well as several vast stretches of open water, Lake Sinclair has plenty to offer for recreation and boating pleasure. Soak up the sun during a day of lake fun. The lake is made up of a 15,330-acre area of water and provides both electricity and recreation. Try your swing at any of the 10 golf courses (many of them award-winning) in these beautiful cities. In 2006, Milledgeville-Baldwin County/Lake Sinclair became a member of Georgia’s Lake Country.
The mission of Georgia's Lake Country is to promote and market the Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair region as a world class destination. Click Here for more information.
